Key stages

The four stages of pupils’ progress in acquiring knowledge and skills as set out in the national curriculum.

Key Stage 1, where the majority of pupils are aged 5 to 7;

Key Stage 2, where the majority of pupils are aged 7 to 11;

Key Stage 3, where the majority of children are aged 11 to 14;

and Key Stage 4, where the majority of pupils are aged 14 to 16.
